Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy
Dr. Yelinek is a graduate of the Healing Oasis Wellness Center and is certified in Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy (VSMT). Chiropractic, or spinal manipulation, is the art of making an adjustment to a “subluxation” in an attempt to restore a pain free range of motion to the joints with focus on the spine and nervous system in keeping our bodies whole.
“Animal Chiropractic can be used as an aid in the treatment of neck, back, leg, and tail pain, muscle spasms and nerve problems, injuries from slips, falls, and accidents, jaw or TMJ problems, difficulty chewing, event or sports injuries, post-surgical amelioration of pain and rehabilitation, bowel, bladder, and internal medicine disorders, maintenance of joint and spinal health, and healing/helping with chronic internal medicine disorders that do not resolve as expected, and behavioral changes (avcadoctors.com).”
Dr. Yelinek maintains adjunct teaching positions in both VSMT and Acupuncture to assist other veterinarians in learning these integrative modalities.
Acupuncture
Dr. Yelinek provides Traditional Chinese Medicine consultations and is certified by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. Veterinary acupuncture has been used to treat animals for nearly 4,000 years in China.
Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific points on the body which have the ability to alter various biochemical and physiological conditions in order to achieve a healing effect. It is believed to balance this energy and thereby assist the body in healing disease. Acupuncture can stimulate nerves, increase blood circulation, relieve muscle spasms and cause the release of hormones, such as endorphins (one of the body's pain control chemicals) or cortisol (a natural steroid). It is not a cure-all, but works well where indicated, usually in combination with traditional veterinary medicine.
Pain management is an important application of veterinary acupuncture. Acupuncture is also used for gastrointestinal disorders, respiratory problems, urinary disorders, musculorskeletal disorders, dermatological problems and to lessen the side effects of chemotherapy drugs and to stimulate the immune system.

Laser Therapy
Laser therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to interact with tissue mitochondria of injured cells producing cellular energy in the form of ATP, which causes an increase in cell metabolism. The result is tissue repair and healing with a reduction in inflammation, swelling, muscle spasms, stiffness and pain. Widely used in Europe since the 1970s, the Food and Drug Administration cleared this Class IV laser for use in this country in 2002 and we are pleased to be able to offer this break-through modality. We use laser therapy for anything that hurts or is having trouble healing to improve the quality of life for our patients.
